What has haulage ever done for us?
We all get frustrated with trucks from time to time; slowing us down as they can’t accelerate as quick as we’d like. However, the modern world wouldn’t be possible without trucks on the road and here’s why…
Did you know 89% of all goods transported by land in Great Britain are moved directly by road, but even the 20% that is not moved by road often needs trucks to complete or part complete journeys. So, without trucks there would be no food on the shelves, no clothes to buy and no buildings to buy. Trucks contribute a lot more than most people realise.
In fact, 8% of the total UK workforce are employed in the logistics sector. That’s about 1 in every 12 people you meet! What’s more, if the logistics industry disappeared the UK economy would lose £86.5 billion and the 5th biggest industry employer. Shocking right?!
Road haulage and logistics is imbedded in the UK economy more than you know, especially with just in time production.
Can you name something that you can buy that isn’t transported by a truck? Let us know in the comments below
